The next day I went for a 300 km ride with a buddy and it only stalled once with many stops. I've had it out for three short rides since then and it hasn't stalled since.

It will come back of course. I wasn't impressed with the way it came back and the young guy at goodtimes had to really sweet talk me to even leave with it. It stalled when I was riding it around the lot to my truck and it was running so rich it looked like an old steam engine for all the black smoke coming out the back. After a week it didn't seem to be that rich, I'm not sure what changed.

At this point i'm waiting until Steve Hicks (the supposed DNA master tuner) visits Goodtimes and I'll spend an entire day with the bike, doing lots of stop and go before I put it in the truck and drive off. Unfortunately I have to leave for at least one week of work out of province and maybe several. I just hope I don't miss that window.
Have you been directly in touch with DNA at this point? At this point this needs to be sorted like last year. I would be breathing down their necks so hard it's not even funny.

Is it DNA that does not want to degree the cams or Goodtime? No doubt they are trying to avoid it because I think it is a costly affair.

Don't roll over man. I remember you saying in another post on here somewhere that you were "too nice". You know what happens to nice guys :-)

Don't need to be an ass. Just be firm. I think part of the problem is that you didn't buy from Goodtime so it is hard to get too pushy with em...

Can you send me the mechanic's name at Goodtime by private message? I'm just curious who it is...

Good luck brother

Cheers

I've had three different mechanics that I talk to out front. It used to be john who was great because he was a friend of a friend but i don't think he's even there now.

The biggest problem is that I live so far away and the problem doesn't show up right away. When i do go deal with this I have to take an entire day and kill it in Ottawa to try to ride it until it either returns or doesn't. They're willing to work at it until it's resolved but i just can't let my bike sit through all the good riding time.

I'm actually only 1500 km from the 12k service, i'm really not looking forward to that. At this point I'd just like to trade it on an 1198 as soon as I get steadier work that doesn't just pay the bills, wash my hands of this one.

I'll get my last ride in today before I take off for work, I'll update how that goes.

Got antsy are around eleven tonight, did a quick tour to town. Stalled twice and had to stop for lights maybe fifteen times. Out on the highway it ran perfectly. It's only done the shoot to 4500 and refuse to stop until I toggle the key ten times crap twice since May. It'll sit in the garage for a while now so I'll worry about it when i get back.

If you can afford to do so than I suppose it wouldn't be the worst idea to consider a trade...

But still, drives me nuts to see cases like yours with the price we pay for these things. It was cases like yours that had me wondering whether trading my 10r in for one of these things was a good idea. Fortunately for me things have worked out and I appear to have gotten one of the "good ones"...

Would you go 1198s or just a base? I was on Goodtimes' website the other day and noticed the price on an 1198s was like 27k...the base is still 20k...

Cheers

I've thought about it, if the price was closer I'd go for the S because I really like lighter wheels but as is I'd probably go for the base and over time add some stuff to it.

Who knows, maybe even after a year trade mine for another used 1098 but one with less miles and eat a couple grand and spin the stalling wheel again?

It's just a bit of a let down because my last duc was by far the best motorcycle I've ever owned.

I also saw on the website that they were still advertising a 2008 1098s for 21k...must have one left or something...

Cheers

If I was practical I'd trade mine for that 998 Matrix and a BMW 800 ST, have a broader stable for different biking needs.

Looks like I'll be on the road working for the better part of the next three months now with an occasional weekend home, might be a moot point.

After two seasons of stalling and difficult starting I had to get firm with Ducati and Inglis Cycle London. So they with Steve Hicks replaced the cams to 08 type and also installed an 1198 type starter with upgraded battery. No more stalling and the bike starts first crank. It might be my imagination but it feels smoother and seems to have more torque. The idle to me is a little high at 1650/1700 on a warm day but I am not going to complain to much about that. Thanks again to Gord and the guys at Inglis.

At least it's encouraging that the Steve Hicks visit was worth the wait. My work schedule is so chaotic I just hope I can get the bike there when he's there.
